Boat free crochet pattern


 

MATERIALS:

  • Crochet hook size 2.5 (the boat will be 28 cm tall and 21 cm long)
  • Yarn: dark blue, light blue, gray, white, and golden colors
  • Sturdy cardboard for the bottom of the boat
  • 40-50 cm of wire for the mast
  • Stuffing
  • Glue
  • Needle

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec: decrease (sc two stitches together)
  • tr: treble crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch

INSTRUCTIONS:

BOTTOM (crochet with gray yarn, 1 piece):

  1. Ch 4, 3 dc into the 4th ch from the hook, ch 1 (for turning) = 4 stitches, turn your work.
  2. Rows 2-25: 4 sc, ch 1 (for turning) = 4 stitches, turn your work.
  3. Row 26: Ch 3, 3 dc worked together.
  4. Row 27: Crochet sc all around the edge of the piece. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Cut a piece of cardboard slightly smaller than the crocheted bottom piece.

SIDE (crochet with dark blue yarn, 2 pieces):

  1. Ch 31, 30 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook, ch 1 (for turning) = 30 stitches, turn your work.
  2. Row 2: inc, 28 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 32 stitches, turn your work.
  3. Row 3: 32 sc, ch 1 (for turning), turn your work.
  4. Row 4: inc, 30 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 34 stitches, turn your work.
  5. Row 5: 34 sc, ch 1 (for turning), turn your work.
  6. Row 6: inc, 32 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 36 stitches, turn your work.
  7. Continue similarly, increasing every other row until Row 20, where you end with 50 stitches. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Make a second identical piece.

DECK (crochet with light blue yarn, 1 piece):

  1. Ch 4, 3 dc into the 4th ch from the hook, ch 1 (for turning) = 4 stitches, turn your work.
  2. Row 2: inc, 2 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 6 stitches, turn your work.
  3. Row 3: inc, 4 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 8 stitches, turn your work.
  4. Row 4: inc, 6 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 10 stitches, turn your work.
  5. Continue crocheting in this pattern until Row 5 reaches 12 stitches. Rows 6-43: 12 sc, ch 1 (for turning), turn your work.
  6. Row 44: dec, 8 sc, dec, ch 1 (for turning) = 10 stitches, turn your work.
  7. Rows 45-48: Continue decreasing until you have 4 stitches, finish with 3 dc worked together and fasten off. Weave in the ends.

CHIMNEY (crochet in spiral, 1 piece with dark blue, white, light blue, and gray yarn):

  1. Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook = 6 stitches.
  2. Rnd 2: inc in each stitch around = 12 stitches.
  3. Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat around = 18 stitches.
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) repeat around = 24 stitches.
  5. Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat around = 30 stitches.
  6. Rnd 6-11: 30 sc.
  7. Change color to white, continue sc rounds for 6 more rounds, then change to light blue for 6 rounds, and finally gray for 6 rounds. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

SAIL (small, crochet with white yarn, 1 piece):

  1. Ch 4, 2 dc into the 4th ch from the hook, ch 1 (for turning) = 3 stitches, turn your work.
  2. Row 2: inc, 1 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 5 stitches, turn your work.
  3. Row 3: 5 sc, ch 1 (for turning), turn your work.
  4. Row 4: inc, 3 sc, inc, ch 1 (for turning) = 7 stitches, turn your work.
  5. Continue similarly, increasing every other row until you reach 25 stitches in Row 22.
  6. Change yarn color to light blue, crochet sc all around the sail, fasten off and weave in the ends.

ASSEMBLY:

  1. Join the two side pieces together with sc along the sides.
  2. Attach the bottom to the sides using sc stitches.
  3. Glue the cardboard piece to the inside bottom for stability.
  4. Stuff the boat.
  5. Attach the deck to the sides using sc stitches.
  6. Crochet one round of sc in dark blue and light blue yarn around the top edge of the boat.
  7. Stuff and sew the chimney in place.
  8. Sew the long mast to the deck.
  9. Sew the bent mast, attaching the 3 cm part to the mast and the 2 cm part to the deck.
  10. Sew the short mast to the opposite side of the bent mast, 1 cm higher.
  11. Attach the small sail to the bent mast at the fold, sewing the top part to the mast.
  12. Attach the large sail to the short mast and sew the top part to the mast.
  13. Sew the flag to the mast.
  14. Attach the ladders to the deck and mast, stretching slightly.
  15. Sew the portholes to the sides (3 on one side, 2 on the other) and the anchor.
  16. Secure the mast with white and golden yarn to keep it upright.
  17. Decorate the sides, portholes, and anchor as desired.
