Materials

  • White (8001) or off-white (8176) Amigurumi yarn
  • Sweet Amigurumi yarn (3046)
  • Macadamia Amigurumi yarn (3148)
  • Black Amigurumi yarn (8990)
  • Black embroidery thread (for eyes)
  • 2.2 mm crochet hook (or preferred size)
  • Stuffing
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Size

Using the materials listed, your baby flamingo will be about 8.5 cm tall (not including legs).

Head and Body

(Sweet Amigurumi Yarn)

  1. 6 sc in a magic ring (6 sts)
  2. 6 inc (12 sts)
  3. (1 sc, 1 inc) x 6 (18 sts)
  4. (2 sc, 1 inc) x 6 (24 sts)
  5. (3 sc, 1 inc) x 6 (30 sts)
  6. 6-12. 30 sc (30 sts)
  7. (3 sc, 1 dec) x 8 (24 sts)
  8. (2 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (18 sts)

Start stuffing the head.

  1. (1 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (12 sts)
  2. 12 sc (12 sts)
  3. (1 sc, 1 inc) x 6 (18 sts)
  4. (2 sc, 1 inc) x 6 (24 sts)

Add more stuffing until the head is firm.

  1. 24 sc (24 sts)
  2. 1 inc, 23 sc (25 sts)
  3. 2 inc, 23 sc (27 sts)
  4. 1 sc, 2 inc, 24 sc (29 sts)
  5. 1 sc, 4 sc in BLO, 24 sc (29 sts)
  6. 3 dec, 23 sc (26 sts)

Loosen the sweet yarn (do not cut) and take the macadamia yarn. Connect it to the front loop of the first stitch made in BLO in row 24. Make 3 ch and go back with 2 sl st.

Body (continued)

(Make a sl st in the next loop, make 3 sc, and go back with 2 sl st. Repeat for the four loops in row 24. You’ll have four light pink feathers for the tail. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends inside the amigurumi. Return to the flamingo’s body, working with the sweet yarn that was on hold.)

  1. 2 dec, 22 sc (24 sts)
  2. Start stuffing the body.
  3. 12 dec (12 sts)
  4. 6 dec (6 sts)

Add more stuffing until the body is firm. Cut the yarn, leaving it long enough for finishing. Thread the yarn into the tapestry needle and close with an invisible finish. Embroider the eyes between rows 9 and 10, with 5 stitches between them.

Beak

(Black and Off-White Amigurumi Yarn)

  1. Start with the black yarn: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 sts)
  2. 4 sc (4 sts)
  3. Switch to the off-white yarn: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 2 (6 sts)
  4. (2 sc, 1 inc) x 2 (8 sts)

Cut the yarn, leaving it long enough for sewing. Sew it in the center between rows 9 and 11.

Wings (Make Two)

(Sweet and Macadamia Amigurumi Yarn)

  1. Start with the sweet yarn: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 sts)
  2. (1 sc, 1 inc) x 3 (9 sts)
  3. (2 sc, 1 inc) x 3 (12 sts)
  4. 12 sc (12 sts)
  5. (2 sc, 1 dec) x 3 (9 sts)
  6. 9 sc (9 sts)
  7. (1 sc, 1 dec) x 3 (6 sts)

Switch to macadamia yarn. Make 3 ch, and in the second chain from the hook, make 2 sl st. Make a sl st in the next sc from the previous row, then make 3 ch and repeat to the end of the row.

Legs (Make Two)

(Macadamia Amigurumi Yarn)

  1. Make 11 ch. In the second chain from the hook, make 2 sl st, then make 3 ch and return with 2 sl st, starting from the second ch from the hook, make 3 ch and return again with 2 sl st starting from the second ch from the hook.
  2. To finish, make sl st in all remaining chains of the leg. Cut the yarn, leaving it long enough for sewing. Attach to the body.

Bow

(Mustard Amigurumi Yarn)

  1. Make a magic ring. Chain 2, make 2 dc, ch 2, sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in the magic ring.
  2. Close the magic ring and cut the yarn, leaving it long enough to sew.
  3. For finishing, wrap the yarn around the center of the ring at least three times to shape the bow. Tie a knot at the back and sew it to the head.
