- Using a length of orange yarn, create 6 sections by weaving the yarn up through the centre of the head, around the outside of the head, then up through the centre again and pulling to tighten. Make 2 larger sections at the front and four smaller sections at the back. To do this, start by making a + sign with the sections (i.e. directly between the eyes, at the centre back and on each side), then divide the back two sections in half again. Tie a knot to secure and weave ends.
- Stitch eyelashes using black crochet thread and a nose using orange yarn, if desired.
- Stitch stem and both vines to centre of head.
- Stitch bow to top of head.
- Weave ends.
Assembly:
- Cut a length of wire approximately 40cm/15" long. Insert wire through the right arm starting at the hand, then through the body between rows 20 and 21, and then through other arm starting at the sleeve end.
- Sew the arms in place on each side of the body at rows 19 to 21. Weave ends.
- Insert each end of wire through the head between rows 8 and 9, approximately 5 stitches behind each eye. Very important: push each end of the wire out through the same stitch at the back of the head. This will ensure the wire creates stability all the way through the head so that the back of the head is stabilized and doesn't fall backward.
- Bend the arms and position the arms and head as desired. Then, with a pair of pliers or tweezers, twist the ends of the wires together to tighten the wires so all pieces are sitting flush together. Trim wire ends as close to head as possible, then poke inside the head.
Assembly (continued):
- Carefully adjust the positioning of the head and arms. Ensure everything is aligned and the arms and head are securely attached. Use the pliers or tweezers to make any necessary adjustments.
- For additional stability, you can use a bit of hot glue or fabric glue at the joints where the arms meet the body and the head meets the body. Allow any glue to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
- If desired, add any final decorative touches such as additional stitching, small accessories, or embellishments. Make sure everything is securely fastened.
Finishing Touches:
- Review the entire piece to ensure all parts are securely attached and all loose ends are woven in.
- Gently reshape and fluff any areas as needed. Adjust the positioning of the ruffles, bow, and vines to your liking.
- Give your finished creation a final check for any loose ends or areas that might need additional attention.
- Congratulations on completing your project! Enjoy your handmade creation or gift it to someone special.
