Project Details

Difficulty level: Basic/Intermediate. The project starts from the bottom, i.e., from the legs, and is worked in a spiral. There are no seams for the legs or head as they are joined through crochet.

Arms

Make two in brown color:

Row 1:

6 sc in am

Row 2:

(1 inc, 1 sc) x 3

Rows 3-5:

Row 6:

Rows 7-12:

Flatten the piece and make 3 single crochets, picking up the edge stitches at the same time. Cut the yarn and leave the arms on hold.

Legs

Make two. When finishing the first leg, cut the yarn and leave on hold. When you finish the second leg, do not cut the yarn as you will start joining the legs and then shape the body.

Row 2:

Rows 3-4:

BLO 12 sc

Row 5:

(1 sc, 1 inc) x 6

Rows 6-7:

18 sc

Joining Legs and Starting the Body

To start the first round, attach the crochet hook at any point of the first leg (preferably at the end stitches) and make the first sc there (mark it as it will be the starting point of the round). Ensure to apply tension in this first stitch to avoid a hole. When joining the second leg, make sure to join at the front side of the body (the leg joining always corresponds to the back of the doll).

Row 1:

18 sc (from the first leg), 18 sc (from the second leg) (36)

Row 2:

(5 sc, 1 inc) x 6 (42)

Rows 3-9:

42 sc (42)

Stuff the piece as you progress in the work.

Final Details and Assembly

  • Attach the arms to the sides of the doll, sewing them to the last round of the body in orange color.
  • With orange yarn, embroider the eyebrows and with white yarn, add highlights around the eyes. Embroider the nose with nude yarn.
  • Place the cap on the head so that 4 rounds from the eyes upwards are visible, corresponding to the doll’s forehead. Attach it with glue or sew it, as preferred (do the same with the other pieces). The stem and leaf should be left attached to the top.
  • Finally, tie the chain strip around the neck, attach the flower to one side, add some color to the cheeks for an extra touch of cuteness :)

Congratulations!

You have finished your Sweet Orange. I hope you enjoyed this pattern.
