Birds Keychains Free pattern


 

MATERIALS NEEDED:
1. Yarn Art Jeans yarn or any similar alternative. You can choose any colors to your liking.
2. Crochet hook size N°1.8-2.
3. Toy stuffing.
4. Eyes - black half beads with a 6 mm diameter.
5. Glue for attaching the eyes.
6. Needle with a wide eye, marker, scissors.
7. Keychain base with a carabiner.

ABBREVIATIONS:
  • MR - magic ring
  • SC - single crochet
  • INC - increase
  • DEC - decrease
  • (..) *6 - repeat the action in brackets the specified number of times
  • CH - chain stitch
  • Sl St - slip stitch
HEAD-BODY:
The marker runs down the middle of the back. Use offset stitches if necessary.
  • Row 1: 6 SC into MR
  • Row 2: 6 INC = 12 stitches
  • Row 3: (SC, INC) *6 = 18 stitches
  • Row 4: (2 SC, INC) *6 = 24 stitches
  • Rows 5-8 (4 rows): 24 SC
  • Row 9: (2 SC, DEC) *6 = 18 stitches
  • Row 10: 17 SC, INC = 19 stitches
  • Row 23: DEC, 22 SC = 23 stitches
Align the marker line. Stuff the piece.
  • Row 24: 5 SC, (SC, DEC) *4, 6 SC = 19 stitches
  • Row 25: 6 SC, 3 DEC, 7 SC = 16 stitches
  • Row 26: 4 SC, 4 DEC, 4 SC = 12 stitches
  • Row 11: INC, 6 SC, 4 INC, 8 SC = 24 stitches
  • Row 12: 24 SC
Continue without cutting the yarn.
  • Row 13: 8 SC, (SC, INC) *4, 8 SC = 28 stitches
  • Row 14: 27 SC, INC = 29 stitches
  • Row 15: INC, 28 SC = 30 stitches
  • Rows 16-19 (4 rows): 30 SC
  • Row 20: 10 SC, (SC, DEC) *3, 11 SC = 27 stitches
  • Row 21: 27 SC
  • Row 22: 10 SC, (DEC, 2 SC) *2, 7 SC, DEC = 24 stitches
TAIL - OPTION 1:
The marker runs strictly down the middle of the back and the top of the tail.
  • Row 27: 4 SC, 2 DEC, 4 SC = 10 stitches
  • Row 28: (3 SC, DEC) *2 = 8 stitches
  • Row 29: (3 SC, INC) *2 = 10 stitches
  • Row 30: (4 SC, INC) *2 = 12 stitches
  • Row 31: 12 SC
  • Row 32: (5 SC, INC) *2 = 14 stitches
  • Row 33: (6 SC, INC) *2 = 16 stitches
Align the marker line.
  • Row 34: 16 SC
First, crochet one tip of the tail. Skip 8 stitches and start from the 9th:
  • Row 35: 8 SC
Continue in a spiral.
  • Row 36: 8 SC
  • Row 37: (2 SC, DEC) *2 = 6 stitches
  • Row 38: 3 DEC
Cut the yarn, close the hole neatly. Hide the yarn inside the tail. Attach the yarn to the hole in the tail, crochet the second half by repeating the actions described in rows 35-38.

TAIL - OPTION 2:
  • Row 27: Fold the hole in half so that the tail continues from the back. Crochet the hole through both sides with 6 SC.
  • Row 28: (8 CH, starting from the 2nd stitch from the hook, crochet 7 SC, 1 SC along the main fabric) *5, 8 CH, starting from the 2nd stitch from the hook, crochet 7 SC, Sl St. Cut the yarn and hide it.
BEAK:
  • Row 1: 5 SC into MR
  • Row 2: (SC, INC) *2, Sl St.
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew the beak between rows 4 and 6.

WINGS - OPTION 1 (2 PIECES):
Do not add stuffing.
  • Row 1: 6 SC into MR
  • Row 2: 6 INC = 12 stitches
  • Row 3: (SC, INC) *6 = 18 stitches
  • Row 4: (2 SC, INC) *6 = 24 stitches
  • Rows 5-6 (2 rows): 24 SC
  • Row 7: (2 SC, DEC) *6 = 18 stitches
  • Row 8: 18 SC
  • Row 9: (SC, DEC) *6 = 12 stitches
  • Row 10: 12 SC
  • Row 11: DEC, 10 SC = 11 stitches
  • Row 12: DEC, 9 SC = 10 stitches
  • Row 13: (3 SC, DEC) *2 = 8 stitches
  • Row 14: (2 SC, DEC) *2 = 6 stitches
  • Row 15: 3 DEC
Cut the yarn and close the hole neatly. Hide the yarn inside the wing.

WINGS - OPTION 2 (2 PIECES):
Do not add stuffing.
  • Row 1: 6 SC into MR
  • Rows 2-6 (5 rows): 6 SC
  • Secure and cut the yarn.
For each wing, crochet 2 pieces:
  • Row 1: 6 SC into MR
  • Rows 2-4 (3 rows): 6 SC
  • Secure and cut the yarn after the second piece, without cutting the yarn.
Row 5: Crochet 6 SC around this piece. Join the longer piece, crochet 3 SC around it. Join the shorter piece, crochet 6 SC around it, then 3 SC around the remaining stitches of the longer piece. Place a marker.
  • Rows 6-7 (2 rows): 18 SC
  • Row 8: (7 SC, DEC) *2 = 16 stitches
  • Row 9: (6 SC, DEC) *2 = 14 stitches
  • Row 10: (5 SC, DEC) *2 = 12 stitches
  • Row 11: (SC, DEC) *4 = 8 stitches
  • Row 12: 4 DEC
Cut the yarn, close the hole neatly. Hide the yarn inside the wing.

EYES:
Sew the eyes by making an indentation. Skip 2 SC on either side from the top of the beak. Glue the eyes into the formed indentations. Attach the wings to the sides between rows 15-16. You can sew the wings or use a thread attachment like in my other bird patterns.

Your bird is ready! You can attach a carabiner between the stitches on the head and decorate your bag or backpack with this lovely keychain!
