ADORABLE JACK-O'-LANTERN DESIGN

 


Materials Needed:

  • Yarn in green, purple, black, orange, and yellow
  • Crochet hook size G (4.0 mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers

Bodice:

1. Starting the Bodice:

  1. With green yarn, ch 60 (or adjust based on the child's chest size).
  2. Join with a sI st to form a circle, ensuring not to twist the chain.
  3. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as de), de in each ch around. Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  4. Round 2: Ch 3, de in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st around.
    Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  5. Round 3: Ch 3, de in next 3 sts, 2 de in next st around.
    Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.

2. Continuing the Bodice:

1. Rounds 4-10: Ch 3, de in each st around. Join with a si st to the top of the starting ch-3.

Sleeves:

1. First Sleeve:

  1. Attach purple yarn to the armhole.
  2. Round 1: Ch 3, de around the armhole evenly. Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  3. Rounds 2-4: Ch 3, de in each st around. Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  4. Round 5: Ch 3, de in next 3 sts, de2tog around. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch-3. Fasten off.

2. Second Sleeve:

1. Repeat the steps for the first sleeve.

Skirt:

1. Starting the Skirt:

  1. Attach green yarn to the bottom of the bodice.
  2. Round 1: Ch 3, de in each st around. Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  3. Round 2: Ch 3, de in next 2 sts, 2 de in next st around.
    Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  4. Rounds 3-6: Ch 3, de in each st around. Join with a si st to the top of the starting ch-3.

2. Adding the Black Trim:

  1. Round 7: Switch to black yarn. Ch 3, de in each st around.
    Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  2. Round 8: Ch 3, de in next 3 sts, 2 de in next st around.
    Join with a sI st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  3. Finishing the Skirt:
  1. Switch back to green yarn.
  2. Rounds 9-12: Ch 3, de in each st around. Join with a si st to the top of the starting ch-3.
  3. Fasten off.

Appliqués:

1. Jack-o'-Lantern Face:

1. With black yarn, make simple triangles for the eyes and nose:

  1. Eyes: Ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, hde in next ch, de in next 2 ch, tr in last ch. Fasten off.
  2. Nose: Ch 5, sc in second ch from hook, he in next ch, de in next 2 ch. Fasten off.

2. For the mouth, ch 15, sc in second ch from hook and across. Fasten off.

2. Pumpkin and Witch Hat:

1. With orange yarn, make a magic ring.

  1. Round 1: 6 sc in ring. Pull tight to close.
  2. Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sc). Fasten off.

2. With black yarn, make a small witch hat:

  1. Ch 10, sc in second ch from hook and across. Ch 1,
    turn.
  2. Rows 2-5: Dec 1 st at each end until 1 st remains.
    Fasten off.
  3. Sew the hat onto the pumpkin and add details with yellow yarn for the buckle.

3. Attachment:

1. Sew the Jack-o'-lantern face onto the bodice and the pumpkin witch hats onto the skirt using a tapestry needle and coordinating yarn.

Finishing Touches:

• Ensure all ends are woven in and trim an excess varn.
